Good Citizen Dog Scheme

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is run to enable all dogs to become social and well behaved. By enrolling in a course, working towards an award, the dog owner is also receiving essential education in dog training. The scheme enables you to become a responsible dog owner and your dog become a sociable, well behaved dog. It also enhances your relationship with your dog and helps you understand him and for him to trust you. As a dog owner you also learn about the responsibilities, both legal and social, of dog ownership. Any dog, regardless of breed or age can take part in the scheme.

There are four awards in the Good Citizens Scheme as follows:

Puppy Foundation –basic training skills and socialisation. Just attending the classes is good experience for a puppy. Meeting new people, other dogs and going to a new place.

The Bronze Award – for dogs that are new to dog training. Ideal for owners who take on a rescue dog and as a continuation of training after the puppy foundation course.

The Silver Award – for dogs and owners who want to continue learning and improving behaviour and social skills.

The Gold Award –the highest level of Good Citizenship establishing a well trained, obedient dog and a responsible dog owner.
