Dog Names

When choosing a name for your dog do endeavour to think of a short name for your dog, preferably of no more than two syllables in length, whether you would be embarrassed calling the name out loud and if the name chosen really does suit that particular dog breed.

Encourage the whole family to take part in naming your dog and take into account his breed, coat colour, and size and whether he is  going to be a guard dog, a hunting dog or a traditional household pet. A name like Rocky might be ideal for a breed like a Rottweiller but not a poodle, whilst a name like Trixie might suit a small bitch but not a large St Bernard.

You could consider naming a dog that relates to your own interest or the breed's origin.  A game shooter might call his Springer Spaniel "Gunner" whilst an Irish Setter could be called "Conan".
