Caring for your Dog

Your dog has become part of your family but he depends upon you for his care and often his needs and comfort must come before your own.

Like humans dogs have a few basic needs:

  1. A supply of fresh clean drinking.
  2. One or two meals a day.
  3. Regular exercise suitable for their breed.
  4. Company and affection.

It's as simple as that.  Then you need to realise your responsibilities as a dog owner.

  1. Provide a collar and identification tag with your surname, address and telephone number.
  2. Register your dog with a vet.
  3. Feed your dog a healthy, balanced diet suitable to the breed and the correct quantity.
  4. Provide your dog with a bed of its own.
  5. Groom your dog regularly, according to the breed and check for burs, ticks, lumps and bumps.
  6. Check your dog's nails.  They will grow long and will need clipping back if you only walk them on grass.
  7. Keep your dog under control at all times and do not let it be a nuisance to other people or animals.
  8. ALWAYS clean up after your dog when fouling occurs. You can get a hefty fine if you do not.
  9. Microchip your dog and advertise the fact on identification tag.
